Supporting People with a Developmental Disability and a Mental Health Problem ©

This Handbook has been designed as a basic introduction to dual diagnosis for front line staff and families. It covers topics such as issues in diagnosis; prevalence; predisposition; pharmacology; and therapy. Also reviewed are 7 major mental illnesses and how these present in persons with a developmental disability. The Mental Health Consultation Information Form, a comprehensive tool used to prepare for a consultation, is included. A final chapter provides a comprehensive approach to assessment with forms for data collection and planning, plus a section on how to distinguish between mental illnesses and behavioural issues.
