Step 7: Build a Positive Relationship With Your Caregiver |
|
Your child's care is a shared responsibility between you and the caregiver you have selected. Building a positive relationship with them will help your child become comfortable and happy in this new setting.
After a period of adjustment, your child should be eager to go to the centre or home and just as eager to tell you about the events of the day.
Do your part to create a successful partnership. Ongoing communication with the caregiver is the vital link that ensures that they can be as responsive as possible to your child's needs.
- Let them know if your child had a "bad night" and may be a little off today. Also let them know if something special has happened so that they can celebrate with your child too.
- Share honest information with the caregiver
- Be supportive, appreciative and considerate. If you have any feedback or, set a convenient time to meet with your caregiver so you can have an uninterrupted meeting.
- Let your caregiver know immediately about any changes in
- Your emergency contact information and keep them up to date on any special medical concerns.
- Always pay promptly and be on time to pick up or drop off your child. If you must be late and are unable to arrange alternate pick-up, call the caregiver ahead of time and be prepared to pay a late fee.
- Drop in occasionally during the day to see how things are going and get involved in any special events that may be arranged for parents and children.
Each of these steps will demonstrate your concern, respect and trust which is the foundation for any positive relationship. As a parent, these are the key contributions you can make to maintain quality care for your child.
